The Luso World Cinema Blogathon Returns!

Last year’s inaugural edition edition of the Luso World Cinema Blogathon was a success! Nineteen bloggers contributed twenty-three pieces celebrating descendents of the Lusosphere (Portuguese speaking world) and their films. In many cases, the writers introduced their readers to Lusitanic cultures at the same time. The blogathon even won an award from the Classic Movie Blog Association (CMBA) for Best Blog Event! Encouraged, my co-host Letícia Magalhães of the bilingual blog Crítica Retrô and I are reuniting to run round two of the blogathon!

Details

The blogathon has new dates and runs January 15-17, 2021. Bloggers are welcome to cover films and creatives from any time period. Vloggers and podcasters may participate, too. We ask that posts be new and specifically created for the blogathon. Profiles, reviews, pictorial posts, and personal essays are examples of what you can contribute, but the limit is your imagination. If you don’t have a blog but would like to contribute, Lê and I can find you a guest post host. To sign-up for the blogathon, please comment below with your preferred subject and publication date.

Topic Guidance

All topics must relate to the Portuguese-speaking world or its descendants. The major Lusophone countries or regions of the world are Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, East Timor, Goa, Macau, and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe. Due to exploration, colonization, slavery, trade, missionary work, economic and political diasporas, and immigration, Lusitanic cultures spread world-wide. Like Hispanics, Lusitanics can be of any race or ethnicity or a combination of them.

A note about covering Americans of Lusitanic descents: American media tends not to mention their heritage, unless the subject brings it up or it has regional interest to their audience. There are certain regions in the United States where Lusitanics settled as a group. Outside of conducting your own interview, you may not find much material about their heritage. In cases like these, do mention their heritage as part of your piece, but you likely won’t be able to expand upon it.
